A friend of mine and I were wanting to get together and go to one of his concerts one day. But now that will never happen.
What's really sad is a few days ago, I was thinking to myself "I've got to get myself some Michael. I love his music but I don't own any!" Then Thursday someone came into the store and said "Hey, did you hear? Michael Jackson died!" My eyes got big as saucers and I said "Are you serious?!" The woman nodded vigorously and I thought I was going to cry. But I couldn't cry on the job so I really just moped all evening. When I got home, I was too numb to cry.

No one can sing like him with his trademark "wooohooo's", "aaaaaooooow's" and "woooo's" (I suck at onomatopoeia). None of today's pop stars can compare to him in dance style, musical style, or fashion sense. Hell, they couldn't touch him with a 30ft pole.
The King of Pop has gone on to sing for the angels. No one will ever fill his dancing shoes.

As many people on dA have pointed out, Farrah Fawcet and Ed McMahon died that day too.
Not to sound like a harsh, cold-hearted bitch but I don't care. I wasn't really a Farrah fan and the only thing I think of when I think of ol' Ed is Star Search.
MJ on the other hand was a humanitarian and he tore down the racial barrier in music. Before him, there were no black "pop music" stars: they were all white.
Yes, he was wierd with his Neverland Ranch and whatnot but if you knew anything about him, you'd realize he had NO CHILDHOOD. He started singing at an early age and never got to do the things that other kids his age got to do.
I could go on, but I'd end up getting on a soap box and this would turn into a bitchy rant rather than a tribute so I'll leave you guys with these words:
